Sacraments

Baptism

For Catholics, the Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Whether we are baptized as infants or adults, Baptism is the Church’s way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God, a new birth into the life of Jesus Christ.

Marriage

The Sacrament of Marriage, or Holy Matrimony, is a public sign in the Catholic Church that one gives oneself completely and permanently to one’s spouse. Catholics who marry are expected to celebrate marriage under the auspices of the Catholic Church.

Arrangements should be made by an engaged couple planning their marriage well in advance of the wedding date.  A one year notification is recommended by the Diocese.  Marriage preparation programs given by the Diocese are required prior to the ceremony.  All couples must make an appointment with the priest before making plans.

Reconciliation

The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as the Sacrament of Penance) is the church’s celebration of God’s unconditional forgiveness. God forgives sins whenever a person is sorry for their actions. Confession is a part of the community process of bringing the repentant sinner back into the full life of the church community.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation at St Josephine Bahkita is celebrated every Saturday at 3:15p.m at St. Joan of Arc Church.
